Mark Dermul
Last Sunday I visited my home away from home again, was hosted by the lovely Helen and enjoyed a few drams, picking up another outstanding Distillery Exclusive release, the Auchentoshan 13 Year Old 2012 White Port Cask 486. Find out all about my latest visit here.
It was not easy getting my hands on this one, but thanks to the friendly people at the Pujang liquor store in Taiwan, this exclusive single cask from 1979 - a belter at 45 years old - reached the Toshan Temple in good order and I could not be happier.
Just in time for the holidays, I finally got my hands on the Auchentoshan 1998 bottled by Malts of Scotland in their bespoke Rare Cask series. It spent 26 years on a sherry cask and is a belter!
The Nectar of the Daily Drams, a Belgian bottler, has selected a fine single sherry cask of Auchentoshan 2013 and bottled it at cask strength. Obviously, this one had to go into the collection.
Did you know that there are actually three releases of the Auchentoshan Silveroak 1990? I had the first releases in my collection since the launch in 2012, but now I finally found the second release from 2013. The hunt for the third and final release from 2014 is still on!
It has been way too long since I was able to add a new official release to the Toshan Temple, but today was the day! Just in: the Auchentoshan 24 Year Old 1998 Travel Retail Exclusive for Asia. Yass!
Ooh, another addition to the Toshan Temple of an old release. I already have cask 2507 and 2509 in the collection of the Auchentoshan 31 Year Old 1965 (bottled in 1997) but have now been able to add cask 2502. Hurray!
About a year ago, a 14 years old sherry cask matured Auchentoshan was bottled exclusively for Taiwan. Thanks to my friend Lars, I was now able to add two of these to my collection. One to keep... and one to drink! I truly have the best friends.
Long have I searched for the elusive third release of the Bartender's Malt, which was the so-called City Edition, available only in Glasgow bars. Years and years without any luck until a few months ago my friend Kit - who once worked for Auchentoshan - flippantly said 'You can have mine'. Lo and behold, it has finally found it's rightful place in the Toshan Temple.
In May 2023 I was asked to be the godfather of an Auchentoshan 2010 cask, that would be filled with a stout from the FoxTown Beer Crew. After more than 12 months of ageing, the stout is now bottled at 13% ABV and labeled 'All Hail the Toshan Man'. I'm chuffed!
I've got the best of friends! My buddy Rainer visited the Auchentoshan distillery and offered to bring back the current Distillery Exclusive, a fantastic oloroso single cask #10747 at a whopping 56.2%, distilled on 15th of February 2012 and bottled on 27th April 2024, making it a whopping 22 years old malt!
Cask #2412 was bottled for Christmas in 2010 for Belgian club Fulldram. Little did I know that there was actually a small second batch - only 10 bottles strong - that was kept at the Malts of Scotland warehouses. After a lengthy conversation with owner Thomas Ewers, I was able to add bottle 3 of 10 to the Toshan Temple. Thomas felt it belonged in the collection and thus donated it. How sweet! I'm over the moon with this bottle, as it means my Malts of Scotland collection of Auchentoshan releases remains complete.

Auchentoshan in particular.

I was lucky enough to
visit Auchentoshan again last week and
score a beautiful White Port Cask
matured distillery exclusive.

A first fill oloroso
sherry butt filled 45 years ago, bottled
for what is probably Taiwan's most
popular hip-hop artist.

Just in time for the
holidays. This is a veritable Christmas
dram!

A new release by the
Belgian bottler The Nectar of the Daily
Drams.
